Why we started ACCESS CARE
Dr Alison Chiu trained in Sydney’s public hospitals and has worked there as a consultant ophthalmic surgeon since 2013. She still operates there today. Over those years she has seen how long many patients wait for cataract surgery, and what that wait costs them: their independence, their confidence, driving, working and staying safe at home.
Many of these patients can’t afford private surgery and don’t have private health insurance. Rising living costs have made that gap wider.
When Dr Chiu founded Pure Sight Eye Surgeons, it was to offer patients excellent surgical care. As the practice has grown, we’ve been able to do more. In September 2024 we launched ACCESS CARE, bringing private cataract surgery within reach of more people, with an all-inclusive price and a clear timeframe for surgery. Since then our surgeons have performed hundreds of procedures through the program, and we’re now expanding it.
What’s included
One all-inclusive price from $2,600 per eye covers:
Hospital and theatre fees
A premium monofocal intraocular lens
Surgeon and anaesthetist fees
Your post-operative care
Your price is confirmed at your assessment. Occasionally additional costs may apply, and if so, our team will always talk these through with you before surgery.
About your lens
ACCESS CARE uses a premium monofocal lens, which restores the clarity lost to your cataract. It doesn’t correct astigmatism or reading vision, so most patients use glasses afterwards.
If you’d like to reduce your reliance on glasses, toric lenses (which correct astigmatism) and presbyopia-correcting lenses (such as extended depth of focus and multifocal lenses) are available through our private surgical pathway.
Who it’s for
ACCESS CARE is designed for patients without private health insurance who need cataract surgery and would rather not wait on a public list. Eligibility is confirmed at your assessment. Conditions and exclusions apply.
Your surgical team
ACCESS CARE surgery is performed by FRANZCO consultant ophthalmic surgeons from the Pure Sight team, using the same hospitals, standards and protocols as our private practice.

ACCESS CARE and our private surgical pathway
Some patients prefer to choose their surgeon, access presbyopia-correcting and other advanced lens options, or have surgery sooner. Our private surgical pathway with Dr Alison Chiu and the surgeons at Pure Sight offers these options. Our team is happy to explain the differences so you can choose what suits you.
