About Dr Yip

Dr Jonathan Yip is an experienced, therapeutically endorsed optometrist and a valued member of the Pure Sight Eye Surgeons team. He provides comprehensive eye assessments and plays a central role in two key areas of our practice: dry eye management and refractive surgery screening.

Jonathan graduated from the UNSW School of Optometry with honours and also holds a Bachelor of Vision Science. His professional experience spans primary care optometry, aged care, mobile eye services, and ophthalmology-based settings, giving him a broad understanding of how eye conditions affect people at different stages of life.

Jonathan leads our dedicated dry eye clinic at Pure Sight Eye Surgeons. Dry eye is a common condition that can cause significant discomfort, including grittiness, burning, redness, and fluctuating vision. It’s often under-diagnosed and undertreated.

Our dry eye clinic offers advanced assessment to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms. Treatment options available through the clinic include:

Low Light Therapy (LLT), a gentle light treatment that improves meibomian gland function, helping restore the oil layer of tears, reduce evaporation, and ease dry eye symptoms.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, which targets inflammation and stimulates the meibomian glands (the oil-producing glands in the eyelids) to improve tear quality
Blephasteam treatment, a warming device that helps unblock the meibomian glands
Punctal plugs, small devices inserted into the tear ducts to help tears remain on the eye’s surface for longer

Your treatment plan will depend on the type and severity of your dry eye. Jonathan works closely with Dr Chiu and the ophthalmology team to ensure your dry eye management is coordinated with any other eye care you may be receiving.

Beyond dry eye and refractive surgery screening, Jonathan has special interests in anterior eye disease (conditions affecting the front structures of the eye, such as the cornea and conjunctiva) and glaucoma management.
