Information for Referrers

Thank you for considering Pure Sight Eye Surgeons for your patient’s ophthalmic care. We appreciate the trust you place in us and are committed to providing thorough assessment, clear communication, and timely reporting back to you.

Our team includes ophthalmologists with subspecialty expertise in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, pterygium surgery, retinal diseases, vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma, eye lid conditions, and general ophthalmology, as well as consulting optometrists with a focus on dry eye management and refractive surgery screening.

How to Refer


Referrals can be made by GPs, optometrists, and other specialists. You can refer your patient by:

  • Fax — send the referral to our rooms (fax numbers available on our contact page)
  • Electronic referral — via your practice management software
  • Post — mail the referral to any of our clinic locations
  • Patient-carried referral — the patient can bring the letter to their appointment

Please include the reason for referral, relevant clinical history, current medications, and any recent investigation results. For urgent referrals, call us directly on (other number) and we’ll arrange a priority appointment.

What We Offer Your Patients


Cataract and refractive surgery

Dr Alison Chiu offers custom cataract surgery with the full range of premium intraocular lenses for cataract surgery, laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK, SMILE Pro, PRESBYOND), ICL surgery, and refractive lens exchange. Surgery is performed at Sydney Surgical Centre (Randwick), Somerset Day Surgery (Kingswood), and our laser suite in the Sydney CBD.

Retinal diseases and vitreoretinal surgery

Dr Adam Plant provides subspecialty management of macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusion, uveitis, and vitreoretinal conditions requiring surgery. Dr Joanne Teong also has subspecialty training in medical retina. Intravitreal injection therapy is available at our clinic locations.

Glaucoma

Our team provides glaucoma screening, diagnosis, medical management, laser treatment (including SLT and laser iridotomy), and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Advanced imaging including OCT and visual field testing is available at all locations.

Dry eye

Dr Jonathan Yip and Dr Jennifer Pack lead our dedicated dry eye clinic, offering detailed assessment and advanced treatments including Low Light Therapy (LLT) IPL therapy, Blephasteam, and punctal plugs.

General ophthalmology

We provide comprehensive ophthalmic assessment and management for a broad range of conditions, including pterygium (sutureless surgical technique available), uveitis, keratoconus (including surgical treatments such as UV Collagen Cross Linking and CAIRS), and corneal conditions.

What to Expect After Referral


Once we’ve seen your patient, we’ll send you a detailed report summarising our findings, diagnosis, and management plan. For patients requiring ongoing care, we’ll keep you updated after each significant visit or change in management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept urgent referrals?

Yes. For urgent cases, call us directly on (02) 9098 1180 and we’ll prioritise the appointment. This includes acute vision loss, suspected retinal detachment, acute angle-closure glaucoma, and other sight-threatening emergencies.

Which doctor should I refer my patient to?

If you’re unsure which doctor is most appropriate, our reception team can help direct the referral based on the clinical situation. As a general guide: Dr Chiu for cataract or refractive surgery, Dr Plant for retinal conditions and vitreoretinal surgery, Dr Teong for medical retina, eye lid conditions, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology, Dr Joshua Givorshner for uveitis, neuroophthalmology, glaucoma and general ophthalmology, and for dry eye assessment, to our specialty dry eye clnic.

Do you provide reports after each visit?

Yes. We send a detailed report to the referring practitioner after the initial consultation and following any significant management decisions. Reports are typically sent within a few business days of the appointment.
